Things to do and see at The Haven
Spend your days relaxing in our peaceful gardens or join in on one of the many activities we offer, both at The Haven and nearby. We’re a family-friendly lodge, and kids love it here — don’t be surprised if they’re asking when they can come back before you’ve even left!
Fishing
The River Nile is excellent fishing for Tilapia, Yellowfish and Nile Perch. Rent some fishing tackle for a small fee and try your luck down at the rapids. For the keen, enjoy a few hours on the river on a private fishing cruise. Boat rental (for maximum five people) includes fishing equipment and guide.
Go bird watching
Why not spend a day watching the birds and wildlife around the lodge and the islands? See if you can spot the white head of the Fish Eagle. Sightings of Red-tailed and Vervet Monkeys, otters and Monitor Lizards are common. Hire a boat for a cruise to see a wide variety of river birds.
Explore the local area by mountain bike
Hire one of our well-maintained mountain bikes and take a ride through the village and the forest. Admire a variety of tree species. Set off on your own or hire a local guide who can point out the local crops and give you an insight into village life.
Explore the local villages on a guided village walk
Witness the villagers’ traditional and simple lifestyle, which has changed very little over the past century. Spot the fish traps, watch fishermen at the rapids and see how the local people work the fields.
Enjoy a sunset cruise or birding boat cruise
Relax with a drink as you take in the natural environment. Witness the dramatic colour change of the sky on our river sunset cruise.

Drift away at our campfire
Reflect on the day’s events in front of the campfire – our “African TV”.
Swimming pool
Take a dip in our swimming pool or relax on one of our sun loungers or the hammock in the trees next to our restaurant overlooking the River Nile. The lodge is busy at the weekends (and solely for the use of overnight guests). Please note that we do not employ a lifeguard so you and your family swim at your own risk.
Internet
Enjoy free WiFi access at The Haven. Our choice of two internet providers ensures we always have a good connection.
Pool and billiards
Our free-to-use pool table is in a covered area outside next to the bar.
In-house facilities free to use
Lodge guests are free to play volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis and frisbee.
Activities for children
The Haven Eco River Lodge is home to Jinja’s best-equipped children’s play area. The sandpit, swings, and trampoline are just some of our excellent recreational facilities for children. Our price list of adventure activities in Jinja includes rates for children.
